“Today the average American spends about 27 minutes a day on food preparation and another four minutes cleaning up. That’s less than half the time spent 30 years ago – and less than half the time it takes to watch a single episode of “Top Chef.” This indicates that many Americans are spending considerably more time watching cooking on television than they are actually cooking themselves.”

So if we add other cooking shows, how many hours do we watch/read others cook on TV or internet, get hungry and eat more junk food???

The food revolution can start with each and every one of us, and that’s where it has to start. Relying on others is not a sustainable solution, or take too long. They are all interested in their bottom line, not our waist line.

And as Shane always says, don’t wait till the kid is in first grade. Or think it’s too late. Start now from where you are. It will add up and make a difference quickly.

I’m the mother of three and a lunch lady in a Sodexo-run middle school kitchen. There is NO WAY I woul ever allow my kids to eat the school lunch. Between the chicken nuggets, nachos and DAILY pizza, I would rather my children had leftovers-sandwich. Srsly, the school kitchens are just slinging out fast food these days and calling it “cooking.”

Not that most Americans would know any better. We really need to start giving good more attention than a half our a day. We have the time. Too many of us just don’t know how too manage it.
